About Adam Popp

Master Deputy Adam Popp is a fifteen-year member of the Orange County Sheriff's Office. He is a graduate of the Florida State University where he majored in Criminology with a certificate in law enforcement and corrections. Previously, Adam was a six-year member of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office. Prior to starting his full-time career in law enforcement, Adam spent a year as an active reserve deputy sheriff with the Leon County Sheriff’s Office.

Currently, Adam’s assignment is to the Marine Enforcement Unit with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. As a member of his unit, Adam has become the training coordinator for all agency marine related training and drives the development and acquisition of new equipment. In addition, he has developed courses for vessel operation, pursuit, boating under the influence, and force-on-force scenarios. He works extensively with other maritime law enforcement partners enforcing boating safety, investigating marine accidents, and investigating marine related thefts. Adam is also a part-time member of the Aviation Unit as a Tactical Flight Officer (TFO) where he has flown over 300 missions. Previously, he was assigned to the canine unit and uniform patrol.

Adam has been a coxswain on Florida’s Regional Domestic Security Task Force (RDSTF) Waterborne Response Team since 2012. He was recognized as the top graduate of his class at the Marine Law Enforcement Training Program (MLETP) at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco, Georgia. Adam has completed advanced level marine law enforcement training from the United States Coast Guard (USCG), the Florida Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), and the National Association of Safe Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA). He has also received extensive training as a boating accident reconstructionist. Adam currently holds a 100-ton Master United States Coast Guard captain’s license.

In addition to Adam’s maritime law enforcement experience, he is also a TowBoat U.S. Captain for TowBoat U.S. Port Canaveral. He has participated in challenging offshore salvages and recoveries to include the recovery of downed aircraft. He has also aided the United States Coast Guard with offshore search and rescue cases and search patterns.

For ten years, Adam has been an active member of the Florida Marine Intelligence Unit (FMIU) and was recently nominated to the executive board as the second vice president. Adam is an active member of the International Association of Marine Investigators (IAMI). He is also an executive board member of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Lodge 93.
